Dr. Kedar S. Lavingia was appointed to the Board of Visitors July 1, 2024, by Governor Glenn Youngkin.
Dr. Lavingia is a lifelong Virginian. Born in Norfolk, he was raised in Virginia Beach and went
to high school at Norfolk Academy. Both his parents obtained their master's degrees from Âé¶¹¹ÙÍø and worked in the hospitality industry. Kedar in his youth spent summers working in multiple hotels developing ties to various local tourism businesses and with the military.
He attended the University of Virginia and graduated with honors from the McIntire School of Commerce. He then went on to complete medical school at the Medical College of Virginia (now, Virginia Commonwealth University). He completed his general surgery residency at Eastern Virginia Medical School in Norfolk, VA, followed by a fellowship in vascular surgery at Stanford University. During this time, he was fortunate to complete an advanced aortic fellowship at Beijing Fuwai Hospital under world renowned expects in aortic disease.
He returned home to Virginia and accepted a position at Virginia Commonwealth University and the Hunter Holmes Mcguire Veterans Affairs (VA) Hospital, where he currently is associate professor of surgery. Dr. Lavingia’s research interests include outcomes of catheter-based interventions compared to open surgery, outcomes after sports-based pathology in athletes, imaging surveillance after endovascular aneurysm repair, and the application of endovascular technologies to thoracic and thoracoabdominal aneurysms. He has published multiple peer reviewed journal articles in high impact publications as well as several book chapters. He is a member of the Virginia Vascular Society, the Vascular and Endovascular Surgical Society, Society of Vascular Surgery and the Southern Association of Vascular Surgery.
Dr. Lavingia is deeply passionate with medical education. He mentors and teaches medical students and surgical residents at the VA as core faculty and has been named as primary mentor for multiple residents.
He also serves as a senior advisor to companies such as G-lift (Salus Medical) to help their branding and marketing teams. He recently joined the board of directors for Electronic Caregiver (ECG) which is a digital health technology and services company that provides systems for connected care, including health and emergency systems.
Kedar met his wife Sneh while she was an Otolaryngology resident at EVMS and reside in Richmond with their young son Brij and dog Zoey.
